You could say that tidying orders the mind while cleaning purifies it.

My life is a mess! Structure and order have never really been my thing but as I get busier, I can see the benefits of adding some order into my life! So I am reading Year of Yes by Shonda Rhimes. I chose a book written by her because she is a wildly successful African Woman in Hollywood and is also a single mother of three! At least, that’s how she seems. I thought I could use the insight into how to organize my life and be the superwoman I envision! You know the one, super present in all aspects of life- family, work, friends – and killing it in every way!
As it turns out, she feels much like me! Like me, people often seem to look at her life and mistakenly think she’s got it all together! Like she’s got some magic formula and has managed to find extra hours in the day! Like me, they ask her,
Shonda, how do you do it all? The answer is this: I don’t. Whenever you see me somewhere succeeding in one area of my life, that almost certainly means that I am failing in another area of my life.

So, I guess I am doing all right-ish. Obviously she is doing a fair site better than me, after all, she managed to crack that mystical Hollywood code and be wildly successful. But my life is still a mess! Literally, spiritually and figuratively, so I thought I would try to make one change. I would try to organize my house! Declutter the shit out of it! Maybe by the process of decluttering and organizing my physical house, I will also declutter and organize my figurative house! Maybe I will get rid of this very real and very scary feeling that I am barely holding it together! Like with one misstep everything will come crashing around me. This feeling of being on edge all the time and missing something vitally important that will ruin it all!
I came across this article called “Decluttering as Spiritual Practice” by Lauren Rosenfeld. In it, she lists Ten Principles of Spiritual Decluttering. She has already done a great job writing about them so I will let you read that on your own. I only wanted to share it with you here now in case like me, you wanted to add a splash of organization into your life but you also want it to mean something! You want decluttering to reach farther than just the edge of our desk or the confines of a room. In case you, like me, are seeking to create space right down to your very soul!
